Another Strike

So apparently the Broadway stagehands are planning on going on strike this morning. The strike is being staged (pun intended) by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. The strikers will first set up their picket lines outside of the St. James Theatre where there would have been an 11 am matinee of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, were it not for the strike. Other shows being forced to close are Spamalot, Jersey Boys, Wicked, The Lion King, Spring Awakening, and The Little Mermaid. There are some theaters and shows, however, that will not be affected. Mary Poppins and Young Frankenstein will still be running. This strike is coming as a result of a dispute between the stagehands and the union of producers and theater owners about work rules and staffing requirements. We'll see how long this strike goes on.
