Writers' Strike

So as you may or may not be aware, the script writers of Hollywood have gone on strike. The strike, organized by the Writers Guild of America was started because of disputes surrounding compensation and roylaties to writers from Internet viewing and DVD sales. The problem is that the producers and corporations are getting money from these forms of distribution, but the writers are not. The first shows affected by the strike were the late-night talk shows, like Leno and Letterman. These shows went to rerun on Monday, as there is no longer anyone to write the material. Jay Leno, for example, could just improvise his own monologues, but he has shown support for the writers and will not return to air until a deal is made.

The sitcoms will soon be forced into reruns as soon as the stockpiled episodes run out. The last new episode of my favorite show, The Office, will air next Thursday. In the video below the writers from the show, some of whom are also actors, explain why they are striking.
